Happy New Year

To quote the Queen, 2010 was indeed a “Annus Horribilis”.

The plane crash at Fox claimed the lives of Rod, Chris, Adam, Chami and Michael as well as four tourists. Skydiving in NZ will never be the same again.

Best wishes for 2011 to everyone.

Just another day

Yip, rocked up to the DZ at 12:00 and had three jumps by 3:30pm – 37 sports jumps made by in total in the early part of the afternoon – included quite a few sports only loads, many thanks to the staff at Skydive Abel Tasman (especially Fi on manifest). Also good to see so many sports jumpers at the DZ !!!

Youtube Video Competition

We will be running a video competition over the next few months.  This will cover 2 and 4 way RW and 2 and 4 way freefly.  The competition will involve one jump a month posted on youtube, with every entered team judging everyone else’s effort (but not their own).  The entry fees will be converted into prizes with most to be raffled, so that all entries get a chance at a prize.  1st, 2nd, 3rd will get a certificates and a small prize.  There will also be novelty prizes (e.g. best funnel?).  The idea is to have fun and do some sports jumping, not to get too serious.

Once we have a better idea of the level of interest, we will finalise rules etc, so for now we only need an indication of whether you are interested and in what type of jumps.  If you are a pro, how about finding some people less experienced and get them jumping….

To help get this of the ground,  please email me ( wayne at nelsonskydiveclub.org)  if you are interested in being involved.

Summer Boogie

Balloon Load getting ready to rock and roll

Yes, a great event – lots of loads, everyone agreed that the Caravan PMT is the best jump plane in NZ (some thought best.) friendly DZ (except for the redheaded manifest chick whose mood and manner matched the plane’s rego), all in all A+++ and will be going again next year.

Weekend at Pudding Hill

jsw_p1060073Where to start, how about with the Caravan, a fantastic jump plane – spacious, quiet, great music playing (thanks pilot), huge door, space to stand up, probably the  the best jump plane for sports jumpers in NZ.

The DZ was also superlative, friendly to sports jumpers, great facilities, good accommodation just across the fence.  Many thanks to the supportive staff and to Steve and Kirsty.  The downwind landings onto the wet grass were interesting…… and fun….

Did I mention the fantastic Jump Plane…

Overall the big tick of approval and recommended to all sports jumpers… :-) :-) :-)

Good Vibes 2009 – Best Yet

Well the weather forecast was crap, but in true Motueka manner the weather was great…

The boogie was the best ever – 125 registered jumpers, with some travelling from as far away as Germany – 2000 jumps with 495 on the last day. 4 chops, a few off landings (yours truly even made one), but no injuries!! Many thanks to SAT for another great event.

Good Vibes 09

Yip, not long now GV09 is just around the corner. Lisa is doing a stellar job organising this …so far we have

Aircraft: Pac 750 Cresco XL, Fletcher, Microlights, Helicopter, Cessna 172,

Coaching in all disciplines, Big Ways, RW,VRW, Atmonauti, Hybrids, Tracking Jumps, Wingsuits, POPs, Girl ways, Novelty, Scrambles, Swoop & Chug, Beach Jumps, Raffles, BBQs, Finale Dinner and Party

Prizes: Price Icarus Canopy, Free Cypres Maintenance, Goodies from Lars & Brusgaard, Airtech and other great SkydiveZone brands, and heaps more….

registration forms for GV09 are now available here http://www.skydive.co.nz/content/library…

I’m keen to organise some four way coaching/training with a ‘friendly’ four way competition between teams of mixed abilities/jump numbers on the last weekend. So all of you died-in-the-wool RW jumpers, why not do some thing different this GV09, make a four way up using some new jumpers. This is a good way for you to help support the sport and get some new RW jumpers motivated.

Anyone interested (of any jump numbers) contact me  wayne at nelsonskydive.org.

Blue Skies, stay safe

If there are any cameramen who are interested in being involved please let us know (contact details provided).

Early-bird registration fee will be $100, if paid by Friday May 8. After this it will be $125. This can be direct debited over the internet or by check. For all bank info please contact Kelly. $50 of this fee will go toward the ferry cost of the pac750, and if there’s not enough interest this part will be refunded.
